Dr. Matej Meterc je znanstveni sodelavec na Inštitutu za slovenski jezik Frana Ramovša ZRC SAZU. Njegovi glavni področji sta frazeologija in paremiologija. Kot slovaropisec sodeluje pri izdelavi eSSKJ-ja ter ePravopisa. V okviru projekta Slovenščina na dlani Univerze v Mariboru pomaga urejati frazeološki del interaktivnega učnega e-okolja za učenje slovenščine. Leta 2017 je pri Založbi ZRC izšla njegova knjiga Paremiološki optimum; Najbolj poznani in pogosti pregovori ter sorodne paremije v slovenščini. Pripravlja Slovar pregovorov in sorodnih paremioloških enot, ki bo od leta 2020 dalje letno prinašal okoli sto slovarskih iztočnic. V svojem delu uporablja predvsem korpusne in anketne metode.
