Gabrijela Zaharijas is an Associate Professor at the Center for Astrophysics and Cosmology at the University of Nova Gorica. After obtaining a doctorate at New York University, she worked at several institutions around the world: the Argon Laboratory in Chicago, the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, the Institute of Theoretical Physics (IPhT) in Paris, and the Oskar Klein Centre at the University of Stockholm.
She works on various topics in astroparticle physics related to questions of dark matter. Currently, she focuses mostly on analysis of the gamma-ray astrophysical data with the main goal being the search for dark matter signatures. She has been a member of the NASA Fermi LAT collaboration since the launch of the satellite in 2008. In 2014, she joined the Cherenkov Telescope Array collaboration where she currently serves as a coordinator for a working group that deals with Dark Matter and New Physics.
